Under His Wings An article in National Geographic several years ago After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage. One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick. When he struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother's wings. The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies. When the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body, the mother had remained steadfast. Because she had been willing to die, those under the cover of her wings would live. "He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge;..." (Psalm 91:4) Being loved this much should make a difference in your life. Remember the One who loves you and then, be different because of it. "He who dwelleth in the secret place of the most High, Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." "Have you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strenght to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew thier strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will rin and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:28-31 "But now, this is what the Lord says- He who created you, O Jacob, He who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have reddemed you; I have summonded you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;.... Isaiah 43:1-3... |
